SVA Revival
Revival Coming to Spring Vale Academy
On Friday, February 6, 2009, Spring Vale Academy had a day of prayer. Students came and went during study halls. Staff members came as duty allowed, and Church members joined. Several, including students, also fasted.
There was a different prayer focus each hour: students and staff, staff spouses and children, school vision, parents of the students, etc. Many interesting things happened that day. It lasted thirteen hours, from morning chapel time through evening worship.
During choir class, Mr. Molinar invited students to sing worship choruses. During the last 20 minutes, those in the prayer room joined the choir. One student went to his knees; mascara ran down some girls’ faces. Between songs, a student or Mr. Molinar prayed aloud. It was probably the sweetest time of worship of my ten years at Spring Vale!
One student wrote:
I appreciate Spring Vale so much. I really am blessed by the fact that I can worship my God and grow in Him with positive people, unlike having the normal temptations at other high schools. I think we’re having a revival here. I’m not sure why. For me, He’s always been there, but I’ve never truly let Him in, and I’m gladly accepting that. I’m so overwhelmed right now.
Last Friday, we were having worship time and it suddenly hit me that He loves me — all of us. I didn’t deserve His love. I don’t understand how He can still love us when we deny and reject Him. I broke down and cried because He still loves me though I have rejected Him. It’s wonderful to know He will always be there no matter what.
This girl was so moved that she was weeping as she repeated the story to me. She came to genuine repentance the other day, when she realized all that Christ had done for her.
I have always believed that true revival will spread outside of church walls. The other night, this girl found the courage to witness to some of her unsaved family members. “I would love nothing more than to have my family feel what I feel,”she said.
The Sabbath after the prayer day, I counted 16 visitors in church, even though there was nothing special on the calendar. Pastor Tim preached with a newfound power. Several people went forward, and one was at the altar long after others left.
This second prayer initiative this year has reaped significant fruit. Additionally, the staff has a regular prayer time each morning, where students are prayed for by name. Dorm students have also begun a regular time of prayer in the early morning.
I can’t help but feel that God is making good on His 2 Chronicles 7:14 promise: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
