SHINE to Visit
Jamaica in 2010
The CoG7 SHINE Medical and Dental Mission team is gearing up for its April 2010 mission in Jamaica. Promotion and fundraising are underway to raise support for a mission that will take place in an area new to the team.
SHINE has previously completed missions in Mexico and Central America (Guatemala, Nicaragua, and Honduras). Now it will be venturing to a new zone under Missions Abroad. Some wondered why the mission site was being changed. “Why can’t we continue in Central America? Most of the team speaks Spanish, and the team has proven so effective there.” One response to this, though, was “Remember that we have adopted a new name — SHINE: Serving Him in Nations Everywhere, not just in Central America.”
So with prayer and faith, Jamaica is the next site for the March 30-April 7, 2010, mission.
It isn’t a restful time; there is much to be done. Plans are rapidly unfolding. Fundraisers are being planned to raise monetary support, and not just in California. Team members from several states and in Mexico are planning and completing projects. A Christian concert will be held in New York in December. A golf tournament is being put together.
SHINE is looking for new dentists and doctors to add to the team. Application forms for the Jamaica mission are being revised for posting on the SHINE Web site (http://cog7shine.org). Interested individuals should check there periodically to see what new information has been added.
Ernesto Frausto, team director of SHINE, listed several hopes he has for the Jamaica mission. He wants to continue making improvements, being better organized, reaching more people, and working for the Lord with CoG7 brethren and others. He also mentioned one future goal: to have a permanent organization that can respond to emergencies all over the world.
Frausto also maintains that he is not saying no to ever having a SHINE mission take place within the U.S.
