Lessons for Third Quarter 2013
Bible Studies for Adults
The Acts of the Apostlesis a series of lessons about the early Church, from the ascension of Christ through the missionary journeys of Paul. The empowerment of the Holy Spirit gave the Christian Church a “growth spurt” at the very beginning of this new age under the new covenant instituted by Jesus Christ. Topics covered include the persecution, imprisonment, and dispersion of the believers. Saul’s conversion brought a significant change and provided a foremost evangelist. Nothing would stop the spread of the gospel.

The Tabernacle: Salvation in the Desert provides lessons about worship under the old covenant. The mobile tabernacle was constructed in the wilderness and became Israel’s center of worship for several centuries, until it was succeeded by the temple in Jerusalem. The purpose of each item related to the tabernacle is explained and shown how it served as a type of the ministry of Jesus Christ under the new covenant. This is a significant study.

Call to Serviceis a series of lessons about Apostle Paul’s ministry during his three missionary journeys. Christ said of Paul at his conversion, “He is a chosen vessel of Mine to bear My name before Gentiles, kings, and the children of Israel” (Acts 9:15). Paul immediately began preaching the gospel, but several years transpired before the Holy Spirit selected him and Barnabas to go on the first missionary journey. Paul’s strategy was to preach and teach the gospel in important centers, from where his converts would carry the message to other places. He suffered much to reach many with the news of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Intermediate Lessons (grades 4, 5, and 6)
Walking Wisely is the theme for the lessons this quarter. Students will enjoy the blessings of Psalms, learning the importance of walking with God, enjoying His creation, and recognizing Jesus as the Good Shepherd of Psalm 23. They will draw from the wise teachings of Solomon in Proverbs: learning to depend on God; submitting their hearts to Him; understanding the things God hates; learning from the ant; grasping the value of wisdom and the necessity of counselors; becoming cautious about choosing friends and the words they speak.
Primary Lessons (grades 1, 2, and 3)
God’s Chosen People is our theme for this quarter. These lessons focus on the stories in Numbers, Joshua, Judges, and Ruth, continuing where last quarter left off, from the twelve spies reporting on the Promised Land to Ruth becoming an ancestor of Jesus. The emphasis this quarter throughout all these Bible stories is “God’s Chosen People.” Students will learn how God led and blessed the Israelites, His chosen people. They will also learn how outsiders became a part of God’s people and how we can be a part of God’s people today. Finally, they will learn how we, as God’s chosen people, are to share God’s power and love with others.

Jesus, Our Example invites us to learn from the most perfect life ever lived on this earth. Each lesson in this series selects a different area of Jesus’ life from which we can learn to pattern our own lives. Time spent analyzing Jesus’ life is always profitable because applying His characteristics helps us become mature Christians.

The 13 lessons in Genuine Christianity are based on the power-packed letters written by James, Peter, John, and Jude. These Holy Spirit-inspired messages are as relevant today as they were on the day when they were written. They offer wise counsel that helps youth live as successful Christians every day.

The Church Begins provides challenging studies about the origin and expansion of the Christian Church. The disciples faithfully remained in Jerusalem until they were empowered by the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost to boldly preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Church grew rapidly, resulting in persecution and the first martyr, followed by the dispersion of many believers, spreading the gospel wherever they went. Eventually missionaries were sent to the Gentile nations.
Intermediate Lessons (grades 4, 5, and 6)
The Armor of God is the title for this quarter. The first four lessons discuss why Jesus had to die for us, why we need to repent, and they review Jesus’ sacrifice and His resurrection to live forever! The next eight lessons teach how important it is for a young Christian to be fortified against the enemies of Jesus, and they discuss the benefits of the various parts of the armor of God. The last lesson emphasizes the need for courage and perseverance, with the help of the Holy Spirit, to grow in Christ.
Primary Lessons (grades 1, 2, and 3)
“Blessing – God Blessing Us and Using Us to Bless Others.” These lessons focus on the stories in Genesis and Exodus, continuing where last quarter left off, from Joseph in Egypt to the Israelites building the Tabernacle in the wilderness. The emphasis this quarter throughout all these Bible stories is “blessing.” Students will learn about the many blessings God offers to each of them. They will also come to see how God desires to use them to bless others. Most importantly, they will come to understand that the greatest blessing God has given us is Jesus and that through Him we can now enjoy the blessing of God’s very presence.
