Pastor of the Year Award

Each congregation in the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day) will have the opportunity to nominate its pastor for the first annual Pastor of the Year Award, with the winner to be announced in October 2010 during Pastor Appreciation Month.  Each pastor may be nominated only once, by the congregation as a whole, by a few church members, or by the church board. Completed Nomination form (see second page) then need to be sent to your district superintendent for his authorization.
The Grand Prize winner will receive a one-week vacation for two at a pre-determined location.  There will be six runners-up, one from each of the remaining districts, who will receive one dinner for two to the restaurant of their choice – a $75.00 value.

Criteria for Pastor of the Year Award:

  • Be a current licensed or credentialed pastor
  • Play an active and useful role in the community, as well as in the church
  • Be exceptionally dedicated to the needs of his flock and community
  • Be poised, articulate, and possess the energy to withstand a taxing schedule
  • Inspire congregation of all backgrounds and abilities to grow personally in Christ
  • Give attention to priorities and programs of the GC, such as: emphasis offerings.
  • Have the respect and admiration of his family, congregation, community, and colleagues
  • Be involved in ministerial professional development – looking for ways to sharpen his saw

Rules for nominating your pastor:

  • Each pastor may be nominated only once; however, this is a group effort, requiring three nominator signatures (each writing at least one essay) and that of the district superintendent.
  • Five essays of 250 words or less (one double-spaced page per essay) addressing the topics listed below and the criteria above must be written, typed, and submitted, along with the nomination form on the second page to the Issachar Forum, c/o Becky Robinson, PO BOX 33677 Denver, CO 80233-0677, by June 1, 2010     Please tell us why you think your pastor is so great, and should be the winner of the Pastor of the Year award.

    1. Professional Biography: Describe what you consider to be your pastor’s greatest contributions and accomplishments. In what ways does he continue to develop his professional ministry?  How does he keep his ax sharp?
    2. Community Involvement: Describe your pastor’s commitment to your community through service-oriented activities, such as volunteer work, church outreach projects, missions work, hospital visits, or other group activities.
    3. Philosophy of Preaching: Interview your pastor to find out his personal feelings and beliefs about preaching.  What makes him an outstanding preacher?  How are his beliefs demonstrated in his personal preaching style?
    4. The Ministry Profession: What does your pastor do to strengthen and improve ministry in general?
    5. Family Life: Do his wife and children support him?  Would they nominate him? How does he interact with his family?
Please include with the nomination package two photographs suitable for publicity purposes. These could be digital pictures, High Resolution (300 DPI) or pictures that are on photographic paper.  A five-inch by seven-inch headshot in color is preferred.
